The Slab Has Been Poured

Standard

It has been a busy past couple of weeks leading up to Thanksgiving Break. The biggest accomplishment we left off on was the pouring of the slab on site. The slab is crucial for our design as it provides a stable structure and base for our porous slabs to be built on top of and suspended so that the filter component can be implemented beneath them.

Here are some highlights from the day:

Next? Getting the filter component Lab-Tested and pouring the walls!

As we continue along this crazy research journey, sometimes we loose sight of why. A reminder to all of us:

Our ultimate goal always has been and still is to help those who do not have the luxury of clean, potable water. With this research, the team hopes to reach out to these communities.

Winter Is Coming!

Standard

Just as the popular Game of Thrones series fears the on start of winter, so does the P3 team in a dash to pour our concrete before the weather drops below curing condition capabilities. The team is continuing to work hard in finalizing the drawings, making the correct contacts for materials, and confirming rain event calculations. With the assistance of the Norwich Construction Management senior class, we are hopeful to see the form work completed this week. Once everything is set, it is a matter of lining up the schedules to ensure a smooth flow leading to our final product: a pervious concrete slab with a below ground filter that will (hopefully!) bring natural rain water to drinking water quality standards.

Lately I have been fielding questions about the filter’s progress and I am happy to say that serious strides have been made and the materials list is being approved for ordering. Once the materials come in, a series of testing will be performed in the lab on different variations of filters prior to implementation in the pilot. This will optimize our filter capabilities on site by trying to divert any complications on a smaller, laboratory level.

Watch for signs around campus and for a little construction to be happening down by the baseball field 🙂

Welcome!

Standard

Hello and welcome to my pervious concrete blog page. Here you will find periodic updates about what is going on in the P3 project and what our team has been up to.

I would first like to thank the team for their diligence and hard work so far. A special shout out to Jake Keasbey for getting our website up and running! I am very excited about our virtual campaign and hope that you will check back with us to see how we are doing.
